Our Story
Kelly and I have always been very different from each other. It was apparent from the first time we shared a room — Kelly nestled safe in her crib, me on the shag carpet below. We were (and are) just two peas in different pods.
Kelly makes lists and crosses things off, while I write a list and don't refer to it for years. Kelly likes to get things done as soon as possible, I do things when there’s a deadline. Kelly needs order in her home before she can do anything, I can ignore it especially if I'm tired or one of my favorite shows is on T.V.
Even our careers, prior to starting PixiesDidIt!, took vastly different paths. Kelly was a buttoned-up equity research analyst on Wall Street and I was a stay at home mom and novelist (still am). Kelly holds a B.A. from Barnard College at Columbia University in Economic History and an M.B.A. from The Tuck School at Dartmouth. I hold a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and an M.A. in Creative Writing from New York University.
Through PixiesDidIt! we discovered that our differences are inherent and while learning new skills is admirable, why go to all that trouble, especially at home relaxing with our loved ones? Our lives today are busy enough as it is and we stretch ourselves to the limit in so many other areas. Why change our fundamental natures just to have a kitchen that's organized in a certain way? If it's not EASY, it's not going to work for long.
The key to home and life is to understand what your natural personality temperament and preferences are and then build systems that work for those preferences, not someone else's.
