Fun Fridays

How Many McMenamins Does It Take to Do the Trinomial Cube?Last week, I was sipping chardonnay in the same spot where I learned about the entire development of our planet before I turned 6 years old. Seriously, I know words like Mesozoic and Cambrian purely from my 5-year old memory bank. Elementary school reunions ... do other people have these? Or is it just some Montessori thing? Regardless, it was beyond fun to reconnect with classmates from pre high school.

My reunion made me think about our old school mascot, a Triceratops. And then this made me think about a hilarious cartoon. In it, two dinosaurs sit on a shrinking atoll watching Noah’s Ark with every animal pair alive today floating away. The caption from the dinosaurs read something like, “Oh geez, was that today?”

I’d already seen the cartoon when a friend of mine forwarded it to a few people saying, “I can definitely relate to this feeling.” This made me laugh because she is most definitely a Classic and would’ve been on the boat. She is married with a perfect home (always neat), works as a higher-up at GE, has a 2 1/2 year old, and always looks put together & fabulous. I told her, “You and I would have been on the boat. Now, my sister, that’s another story.”

Classics can relate to the feeling of missing something important because it happens (nobody is perfect) and it’s our worst nightmare to forget something (or a close approximation). But, other types tend to identify with missing something as important as avoiding extinction because they’re not as obsessed with advance planning -- Organic Freedoms and Smart Freedoms and especially Funs if there was something else really cool going on that day.

I have a theory that cartoonists are all either Organic Freedoms or Smart Freedoms because their brains operate just outside the dominant Classic world and so are able to see the humor in a way that the rest of us can’t — until the show us.

Enjoy a laugh everyday and sign up for cartoons at DailyINK and GoComics. With these two services you can get pretty much any cartoon that's every been published.

Best for Organics and Smart Freedoms
Good for anyone who needs a good daily dose of laughter
