Necessary Evils?

GOOPI did my very first cleanse this week (2 days). I’d say the hardest thing about it was finding the time to do it but that would be a lie. It was hard not to eat for 2 days (okay 1 day … my first day was interrupted by my husband’s office holiday dinner).

I chose the Blueprint Cleanse because my Fun sister-in-law uses them and she knows about all things cool. Now, what possessed me to try a cleanse? Super shallow reason: Gwyneth Paltrow talking about her skin glowing après cleanse. Mine no longer glows (if it ever did.) Plus Gwyneth is whom I’d pick to play me in my life story... “Cleveland girl makes it big as a NYC powerhouse online publisher” … admittedly, it’s a working title.

There are 3 levels and I chose the level where you consider ketchup a vegetable (even though I don’t) because I figured I should take it easy on my first cleanse. My Fun sister-in-law does the 2nd level. As near as I could tell, it only involves one or two differences in the types of juices they deliver. Everything is delivered in compact package with easy to follow instructions. They even give you a cheat sheet of things to eat if you’re ‘dying’. I’d already planned to drink coffee even before reading I could cheat with it as long as I didn’t add milk/sugar.

Day 1: I was as excited as a kid on Christmas to open my hand delivered freezer packs of 6 pints of non-pasteurized juice until I tasted my first juice and it brought me back the 70s when mom was on a health kick and sprinkled wheat germ on everything.  Excitement totally faded at 12:30 when I was officially hungry. Thankfully, I had a reprieve at 6:30 when I had to go to my husband’s office holiday dinner. Hallelujah food never tasted so good.

Day 2: I was more into the groove of it after having had a yummy dinner at a fancy restaurant. Plus, I knew what to expect. But by the end of the day, I looked like hell warmed over as if I were recovering from the flu. Plus, I was a raging b-tch to my husband when he got home and he told me that an old friend of his (whom I’d never met) was coming over and out apartment was a total mess. I wonder if Gwyneth entertains when she cleanses. By nights end, he was begging me to eat something, anything. But, I kept with it. And felt accomplished by the next morning. But, don’t want to do it again soon.

Blueprint (and cleanses in general) seem a perfect fit for Fun Freedoms. As a Classic, I kept thinking, “Wouldn’t it just make more sense for me to drink this juice throughout the week for one meal rather than starve myself?” Classics are a better fit for Weight Watchers. Organics, Classics & Smarts might have an easier time doing a Cleanse if they get Blueprint’s juice until dinner offering. The price at $65/day is the killer (apparently only people with a little extra cash can have ‘easy’ fasts/cleanses — maybe that’s why movie stars skin looks so good?)

Smarts, and Fun Structures you’re likely skeptical and visiting the Blueprint website and this will not douse those fires of doubt. So, I’ve included the Wikipedia entry for you to read the debate. But, frankly, the only reason you’d ever do a cleanse, in the words of one of our favorite Smart friends, “Oh, I'm not convinced at all (about the benefits) — bunch of BS — just wanted to kick start a diet.”

Best for Fun Freedoms
